The specimen

Whole soursop leaves — graviola, guanabana — from trees in the low wet zone, picked mature and dried whole. A soft, green, faintly fruity infusion, closer in character to a light green tea than to a herbal blend. Fifty grams is roughly a month of daily cups. Sold as a botanical tea ingredient, not as a medicine.

Brewing ritual

Three or four whole leaves per cup, water just off the boil, five to eight minutes. A squeeze of lime lifts it.

Large, clean leaves with very little dust or stem in the pouch. I boil a handful for tea each evening the way my grandmother did in Kandy, and it tastes just as I remember. Shipping to Melbourne took nine days.
